Teachers are working with 30 kids in a room. Presidents influence millions. So yeah, it makes zero sense that they’re not held to a higher bar, not a lower one.

The Texas Educators’ Code of Ethics, mandates that teachers:

  • Treat others with respect and dignity
  • Refrain from using abusive or profane language
  • Model ethical behavior at all times

So why is the teacher disqualified for poor tone or disrespect, while a presidential candidate gets away with anything?

If we hold educators who shape young minds, to high standards of conduct, why should we accept less from someone who can literally start wars, write laws, or reshape global diplomacy?

Teachers vs. Presidents: Different Scale, Same Stakes.

Teachers’ behaviors shape children’s engagement and well-being in the classroom. Wording, body language, and voice all play a crucial role. So if conduct matters for educators, it must for leaders too.

A pre-registered experimental test of children’s reactions to tone of voice used by teachers. One of the most important tools in a teacher’s toolkit is their voice: they use it for teaching or managing behavior. “Effectively using voice is crucial for pupils’ educational and well-being outcomes at school, and influences their information processing and comprehension.”
